{31 Days}

I searched the 1828 Webster Dictionary for the word "housewife" {actually, I first searched for "homemaker", but it did not yield any results} and here is the definition I found:

a family economist; a good manager

You see, society is baffled when a woman denies any opportunity to obtain a career and instead, chooses to remain in the home to care for it, as well as those who dwell within it.  They can't understand why she would willingly pursue this way of life because they view it as a complete waste of time, energy, and brain cells.  However, I would argue that, not only is the role of a homemaker more challenging than many jobs in the corporate world, it is a position in which God has called every woman to pursue {Titus 2:5}.

*NOTE: Though this series is written with the full-time, stay-at-home wife and mother in mind, I would never dream of intentionally alienating any woman who works outside of her home.  Because I believe that the Bible does not speak directly against a woman pursuing full-time employment, I will not do so either.  However, the Bible does speak to a woman's roles of wife, mother, and homemaker; thus, I believe that every woman who seeks to be obedient to those God-given roles is a biblical homemaker.

This series is meant to encourage you to take your job as a homemaker more seriously.  After all, if you don't see the value in it and you treat it with little to no respect, how can you expect others to do so?  A second purpose of the next 31 days is to provide you with practical tips for running your home more effectively.

Enjoy!

  2. I am bookmarking this page so I can come back to it as many times as I need to to read through all the wonderful posts in this series. This is a concept that I have been struggling with for some time, feeling like I don't contribute enough to the household since I've been out of work. I really love your perspective on being a homemaker and honestly I have been feeling much more fulfilled and happy since I've been staying home with my son than I ever did in any job outside the home. Thank you for writing this series!
