I'm a "Boy Mom"

Yes, I'm writing two posts in one day!  I'm on a roll, people!
This particular post is specifically for the MOB Society's "Boy Mom Blog Hop 2012".

Hello to all you MOB Society readers!  Welcome to Domestic Bliss Diaries!  My name is Alana and I am the "woman behind the blog", as they say.  I have been married for almost five years to a man who definitely is strong where I am weak.  I am also mom to my three-and-a-half-year-old bundle of personality, whom I call "Little Man".

ABOUT THE BOY

Right now, Little Man is our only child, but we hope to expand our brood very soon.  Of course, if I could hand-select my next child, I'd probably pick a girl, just because my husband and I have always wanted at least one of each.  But, there's no denying the joy that a little boy {or boys} bring to the life of a mother.

Growing up, it was just me and my sister.  Though we both went through "tomboy" phases and participated in fist fights with each other, we were very much girly girls.  Pink, ruffles, Barbies, galore!  You can imagine my surprise when the doctor told me I was having a boy!  I mean, what in the world am I going to do with a boy!!

Needless to say, I was not prepared for the amount of energy, curious questions and, to be honest, boogers that would come out of one little person.  Being a mother of a boy is definitely a dirty and tiresome job, but of course, you other boy moms already knew that!  As active and messy as they can be, they are such a joy to raise.  After all, the reason we have boys is because God thinks we're trustworthy enough to raise up the next generation of men.  What made Him think I could do this job is beyond me... but I am humbled by the opportunity.

Now before I get into telling you a little more about my blog, the link up originators specifically asked for games that our boys like to play... so, here goes:

  • Doctor - My son is all about pretending to be a doctor, thank to Disney Junior's Doc McStuffins.
  • Cars, Trains, and Planes - I realize this isn't really a game, per se, but my son does enjoy having me sit beside him and making the cars race or, which is more often the case, making them crash.
  • Melissa and Doug Toys - Again, not a specific game, but my son has several of these wonderful toys and he absolutely loves them.  He has a great time playing and doesn't even realize he's learning.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Domestic Bliss Diaries is a result of a year-and-a-half of trial and error blogging.  I would start a blog and then stop.  Start another and then stop again.  I could never find my "niche" or my voice because I was too busy trying to listen to "experts" or readers who tried to tell me what my blog was "supposed" to be.  Plus, I was having a hard time finding a balance between writing about my faith and writing about my passions {decorating and organizing}.  Finally, I realized that this was MY blog and I didn't have to follow the "rules".

After a lot of lessons learned, I found what works for me.  Sometimes it means following the rules and sometimes it means tossing the rules out the window, choosing to follow my gut instead.  So, what kind of blog did I settle on?  DBD is mostly about decorating and organizing, but it's also much more than that.  You'll definitely find advice on feathering your nest, but you'll also find fashion, recipes, and entertaining ideas.

It's about creating a home and living well within it's four walls.

Here's are some posts you will probably see most often:

MONDAY MOTIVATION

Every Monday, I share a post that is meant to encourage and motivate you.  After all, who couldn't use an extra pat on the back, followed by an ever-so-gentle kick in the rear on Mondays?  Check out previous Monday Motivation posts HERE.

FRIDAY FAVORITES

Fridays are super fun around here, as I share some of my favorite things on Pinterest.  Why share them?  Well, like I told a reader, I feel so selfish keeping all the Pinterest-goodness to myself.  To see what Friday Favorites posts are all about, click HERE.

Kids' Room: Part Two

HOUSE DREAMING

This is a series that is meant to force me to make some decision about my home {I'm VERY indecisive}, as well as provide a way for me to keep track of all my plans.  And, of course, they are also meant to inspire you to dream a little about your own home, as well.  For House Dreaming posts, click HERE.

PINTEREST INTEREST

What differentiates this series from Friday Favorites is that it focuses on one specific problem/idea/event, whereas Fridays are dedicated to general inspiration from all categories {fashion, recipes, crafts, etc}.  For more Pinterest Interest posts, click HERE.

Untitled #16

COLOR CONFIDENTIAL

This is a new series that shows you how to decorate a room, when all you have in mind is a color scheme.  Catch up with Color Confidential HERE.
