Hello, friends! Today I have an awesome new installment of posts to introduce you to. As far as I know, nothing like this exists in the blog world, but if it doesn't, don't burst my bubble by telling me. I have my heart set on the fact that this series is somewhat original.
So, what is this new series? Well, as you probably gathered from the above graphic, it's called "Color Confidential". But before I share specifics, I have to tell you about the website that inspired it all: Design Seeds, a site dedicated to nothing but color palettes. If you haven't been introduced to it yet, you're going to love it, especially if you're an artist or designer on any level. Basically, they take a photo and pull the individual colors out of it to show you it's entire palette.
So, what does that website have to do with my new installment? Glad you asked. I know it's annoying, but I'm going to answer your question with a question: what is often the most difficult part of the decorating process? Choosing the color scheme! Am I right?
Well, my dear friends, this will no longer be a problem because "Color Confidential" is here to help. I'll be taking Design Seeds color palettes and, with the power of the internet, showing you how they can be transformed into a room. So, if you have a favorite Design Seeds' color palette, send me the link {directly from their website, please}, details concerning your personal style {do you like rustic? Modern? Feminine? All of the above?} and what room you'd like me to focus on {Living room? Bedroom?}. Then, I'll put together a mood board just for you in an upcoming "Color Confidential" post.
In the interest of full disclosure, these posts are in no way affiliated with Design Seeds. All color palettes used are theirs, unless otherwise noted. If you want to pin a specific color scheme, please visit the original webpage to do so. I have included the link below the color palette for this purpose.
Having said ALL that, here's the first color palette I chose:
It's called "Fresh Coconuts" and I chose it because of its vibrant colors that are grounded by warm grays. Doesn't it just look like summer to you? Also, this is a color scheme I wouldn't mind using in my own home, so I thought I'd play around with it.
How would a room with this color scheme look? Well, here's how I envision it:
How would a room with this color scheme look? Well, here's how I envision it:
Whenever I decorate a room, I often like to start with a neutral base, as it allows one to change things out from season to season or as the mood strikes {plus, it's a great time when it comes to His + Hers Decor}. As you can see, the wall color, sofa, side tables, rug, and ottomans serve as a great foundation for any number of color schemes. Then, I added color with accessories that are easy to change out: lamps, throw pillows, and a serving tray.
Here's where I want to tell you where I stretched myself a little {and it may not appear to be a huge feat to anyone else}, because as a decorator I'm supposed to know when and how to take chances. The two throw pillows on the ends {ikat print} are not ones I'd normally gravitate towards, but I do like them in the space. Another "risk" was to sub two ottomans for one coffee table. Those with young children will appreciate the safety factor, but beyond that, I feel like they do add a slight touch of the unexpected.
Now, I'm no so ignorant as to think that these so-called "risks" are anything major. Truth is, the purpose of this series is to help me sharpen my decorating skills. If you remember, I have this dream of becoming a decorator/professional organizer and I feel like these posts will get me one step closer to that goal. So, ideally, my risk-taking will actually look more like risk-taking as time goes on.
So... what do you think? Please keep in mind it's my first time creating a mood board with only a color scheme to go by, but I think I'm kind of loving it. If any of you are skilled decorators, feel free to offer constructive criticism, as this is meant to be a learning experience. For those of you who are not decorators, feel free to simply share your opinion. And, to all of you, don't forget to send me your favorite color palette, along with details about your style, and I'll happily whip one up for you.
