Low Ceiling; High Style

The foyer of your home is an opportunity to make that all-important first impression.  It's a space that needs to reflect you and your family, giving your guests a better sense of who you are.  But this often overlooked area of the home also allows for decor that is a little more daring, as foyers usually are smaller than most of the rooms in your home and they are not generally used very often {other than for the purpose of welcoming friends, many of them are usually walk-through spaces}.

Some of you will remember my plans for my own foyer from my first House Dreaming post.  Of course, since that post, I've decided to enlist my husband as co-decorator of our home, in hopes that doing so will result in a place that we both love.  But, honestly, I haven't done much work in the area of "house dreaming" lately because about a week and a half after announcing my new decorating direction, I found myself in a car driving six {long} hours to meet my nephew who was coming a week earlier than we thought.  I spent an entire week at my sister's house, helping her get settled and then drove the six hours home, by myself!  Now, I've spent this week thus far, sans Little Man {missing him so much}... You would think, with no kid, I would have plenty of time to devote to "house dreaming", but alas, I do not... {Have you seen my to-do list?}

As much I don't have a ton of time to sit around and dream about how I'm going to decorate, I did get slightly distracted seriously distracted by an email I received from Shades of Light promoting their ceiling and flush mount lighting...  Why would that distract me?  May I present to you, exhibit A:

This is {a really horrible picture of} my foyer... But "exhibit A" isn't my entire foyer.  It's that offensive light hanging from the ceiling.  That light, my friends, is what is affectionately called a "boob light" and it drives me nuts.  I mean, how much more generic can you get than a builder-grade "boob light"?

Now can you see why this email from Shades of Light showing off their ceiling and flush mount lighting drew me in?  Anyone else out there suffering with having to stare at an offending "boob light" every day?  If so, do yourself a favor and check out some of the beauties that Shades of Light has to offer...

Oh, and just for the record, I was in no way paid or perked to write this post.  I'm just a girl who got distracted by an email and wanted to share it with you.  And, to the marketing people at Shades of Light who created that email in hopes people like me would be reminded how much we hate those "boob lights"... well played!

**UPDATE**

Thanks to reader, Valerie J, for pointing out that Lowe's has an Allen + Roth light fixture that looks similar to the Circlet Light {$289}.  For an over $200 savings, you could have this beauty:

Blessings,
